City searching for 5 local artists for $2M public art program

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Calling all local artists: The city of Austin is looking for several creative minds to work on its next round of public artwork projects.

The city said it was searching for five local, professional, visual artists or artist-led teams to create public art at seven locations across Austin.

The following are the art locations and budgets available:

  • Elisabet Ney Museum Grounds: Artwork budget: $100,000  
  • Armadillo Water Tank Mural: Artwork budget: $133,000 
  • Walter E. Long & John Treviño Metro Parks: Artwork budget: $100,100
  • Substandard Streets:
    • Johnny Morris Road: Artwork budget: $190,000
    • Ross Road: Artwork budget: $330,000 
    • Red Bud Isle: Artwork budget: $625,000

Applications for the Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) open Sept. 24 and will close Oct. 22.

"These opportunities are designed to foster engagement between the artists and community—highlighting Austin’s unique character and cultural diversity," the city said. "Each public art installation will serve as a lasting symbol of the city’s artistic innovation, creating meaningful connects between residents, visitors, and the spaces they share."
