Community rallies to save Columbia lacrosse program

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Many people rallied Wednesday night to save the Columbia lacrosse program. A passionate group of Columbia lacrosse players, East Greenbush residents, and Section II lacrosse coaches spoke at the East Greenbush Central School District board meeting.

This comes after head lacrosse coach Greg Sherwin and volunteer assistant coach John Keller suddenly learned last week that the administration leadership decided to not renew their contracts.

The district, meanwhile, took the time to clarify some confusion amongst the public regarding their role in the process.

"The East Greenbush Central School District, its administration, and board of education do not make decisions, however, regarding a program, the schedule of activities being offered by the Columbia Lacrosse Club, including the fall league, nor does the district, provide any funding for the club."
