Spurs must avoid defeat against Arsenal to prevent embarrassing record
If Tottenham lose against Arsenal, the Gunners will have won more times at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which has been open for just five years, than Spurs have ever managed at the Emirates.
The North London Derby approaches
Ange Postecoglou’s men will want to send out a statement to their fans as well as the rest of the league when the Gunners visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
They will be reeling after their loss at St James’ Park and will relish the chance to show that they can go toe-to-toe with one of the best sides in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s men have won their last two visits to Spurs and should they win again this Sunday, they will clinch a record which would be rather embarrassing from a Tottenham perspective.
Spurs have an awful record at the Emirates
The Emirates Stadium has been open for 18 years but the Lilywhites have one just twice there – under Harry Redknapp in 2010 and a League Cup win under Mauricio Pochettino in 2018.
However, Arsenal could make it three wins in Tottenham’s new home ground this Sunday even though the venue has only been open since 2019.
Now Arsenal also reveal that the Gunners have not won three consecutive away North London Derbies since 1988, with Arteta’s side thus having a chance to make history by achieving the feat for the first time in 36 years.
Spurs Web Opinion
Postecoglou and the players will not be worried about the history or these records. We know that they will go for the win on Sunday and it will be a case of all-out attack.
If the tactic backfires like it did last season, there is no doubt that Ange’s methods will be picked apart by the media and the fans
