The print edition of Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) suggests that Bryan Gil will return to Tottenham at the end of the season irrespective of how well he does at Girona.

Bryan Gil never hit the ground running at Spurs

After enduring a few difficult seasons at Spurs, where he struggled for game time under different managers, Gil now has an opportunity to get his career back on track at Girona.

The winger now knows that he can seal a permanent move away from Hotspur Way next summer if he impresses at the Estadi Montilivi as a £15m release clause can be activated at the end of his loan spell (Paul O Keefe – Last Word on Spurs).

Gil has certainly made a bright start at the new club, delivering a Man of the Match performance in his debut against Real Betis (Mundo via Sport Witness) and following that up with a well-taken goal in Girona’s Osasuna 4-0 at home.

A permanent move to Girona is not on the cards

Sport now state that Gil has impressed Girona boss Michel with his one-on-one ability and is expected to play a key role for the Spanish side for the rest of the season.

However, the outlet explains that ‘unless something extraordinary happens’, the 23-year-old will return to Tottenham at the end of the season.

This is because the La Liga side are unlikely to be in a position to afford the transfer fee or the wages required to add the Spain international to their squad.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Girona are not able to afford Gil, there will be no shortage of interest from Spanish clubs in the winger next summer if he impresses this season.

The rumoured £15m release clause would make him quite an attractive option for many sides.
