Report: Spurs enjoy the last laugh after Adrien Rabiot transfer rejection
Tottenham Hotspur could finally have the last laugh this summer after they were rejected by Adrien Rabiot many years ago.
Adrien Rabiot is without a club
Rabiot is currently a free agent after his contract with Juventus ran out, with the midfielder now looking for a new club.
The 29-year-old has been linked with several Premier League clubs over the last week, with TBR Football revealing a couple of days ago that the player’s entourage have even offered their client to both Spurs and Arsenal.
The report added that the France international has no intention of moving to Saudi Arabia or Turkey, and is instead eyeing a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.
Spurs could get the last laugh at Rabiot’s expense
However, Football.London now suggest that Tottenham are unlikely to push ahead with a move for Rabiot as his wage demands are £220,000 per week may be too high for the North London club.
The report goes on to reveal that the midfielder actually turned down Spurs’ approach back in 2018, allegedly saying at the time that the Lilywhites were ‘below’ his level.
The publication suggests that Tottenham could now have the last laugh by shutting the door on Rabiot despite the former PSG man’s willingness to move to N17.
Spurs Web Opinion
Rabiot’s decision to reject Tottenham in 2018 will have no bearing on the club’s decision now, with a new manager and a new recruitment team now in place.
However, Postecoglou is unlikely to ask for a stop-gap in midfielder and he would probably prefer to offer more game time to Archie Gray than sign the Frenchman.
