Trump running mate J.D. Vance: Americans won't be influenced by a 'billionaire celebrity'

Sen. J.D. Vance knows Americans can't be influenced by a billionaire celebrity with little interest in the day-to-day problems they face.

Vance (R-OH) made a bold claim about billionaires to Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Wednesday afternoon. But he wasn't denouncing former President Donald Trump, a former reality television worth about $3.8 billion, but rather singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who on Tuesday night threw her support behind Vice President Kamala Harris.

"She has 283 million followers on Instagram and I'm sure that someday brought to your attention she signed it a childless cat lady," MacCallum said. "How do you speak to women voters who obviously, they care about what she thinks?"

Vance skipped the allusion to his much-criticized criticism of childless cat ladies as sociopaths as he tried to belittle the significance of Swift's endorsement.

"We admire Taylor Swift's music but I don't think many people are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans," Vance said.

"When housing prices become unaffordable, it does not affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire."

The foundations of Trump's fortune were laid by his father Fred, a New York City real estate mogul whom The New York Times revealed loaned his son millions.

According to their 2018 analysis of financial documents, Trump received about $413 million in modern dollars from the family real estate empire, and "tax dodges in the 1990s."

Swift issued her endorsement for Harris following a presidential debate that pundits are calling a clear defeat for the former president.

"I'm voting for [Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them," Swift wrote. "I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate [Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades."
