N&N: Sam Hentges needs surgery
Morning news and notes for Sept 11, 2024
Guardians LH relief pitcher Sam Hentges, owner of a 3.04 ERA and 0.97 FIP this season, needs shoulder surgery.
And minor shoulder surgery it is not. He will be sidelined for 12-14 months.
Better news
The Guardians beat the White Sox 5-0 last night behind 7 dominant pitchers and a 3-run Lane Thomas home run. Lane has really come on the past 2 weeks, along with Andres Gimenez, who like Thomas, had 2 hits in the game.
More bad news
The reason the Guardians needed 7 pitchers is because Ben Lively had to leave the game after 2 innings because his leg was drilled by a line drive. The initial diagnosis is a right thigh contusion.
Around baseball
The M’s placed Luis Castillo on the IL with a hamstring injury.
Keider Montero pitched a Maddux.
