According to multiple sources to THR, the actor “received on offer at the end of August. By the end of this past weekend, his mind was made up. No other details were available.”
Lanterns has enlisted Ozark’s Chris Mundy as the showrunner for the eight-episode series, co-written by Damon Lindelof, the creator of Lost, as well as comics author Tom King. The show is still in casting stages, and will reportedly begin filming next January to June in Atlanta.
Josh most recently played Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He also played Cable in Deadpool 2 as well.
There are whispers of other potential names to take on the role, including Matthew McConaughey, however THR‘s sources shot down those rumors.
Lanterns is described as “having a gritty True Detective vibe as it focuses on Hal Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart, who in DC publishing history was one of the company’s first Black superheroes. The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications.”
THR also reports that DC and the producers are looking for “a young, more fresh-faced actor” for the role to play opposite an “older and bigger name.” Stay tuned for more casting updates!
