Bitcoin slips as Harris and Trump debate ahead of election

0

As presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump took to the stage in Philadelphia for their first debate ahead of the election in November, the price of Bitcoin slipped.

After the event last night (September 10) concluded, Bitcoin had fallen 1.2% to $56.258 by 01:58 ET, with other cryptocurrency prices also seeing a slight decline.

It was the first time the pair were in public discussions, with abortion rights, immigration, and Israel being just three of the topics. While it has become a contested issue in the election, the topic of cryptocurrency didn’t come to fruition.

There are more opportunities for crypto to be discussed on the big stage as proposals for additional debates have been suggested by both parties. Next up, on October 1, the vice presidential debate will take place between Tim Walz and JD Vance.

Harris and Trump’s position on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency

So far, former President Donald Trump has been the most outspoken about his support for cryptocurrency. He has promised twice to make the US the ‘global crypto capital’, with the last public mention being on September 5 at the Economic Club of New York.

It was there the 45th POTUS reiterated his intentions and pledged to “eliminate a minimum of 10 old regulations for every one new regulation” and stated this could be done “quite easily.”

He said “…instead of attacking industries of the future, we’ll embrace them, including making America the world capital for crypto and Bitcoin.”

Back in July, Trump attended a Bitcoin conference where he raised $25 million for his presidential campaign. It was just a month later, at the beginning of August, when he announced his very own cryptocurrency platform with his sons.

While Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t been as vocal on the topic, that could quickly change as more questions are posed to the candidate ahead of the election.

An aide to the politician has said “She’s [Kamala Harris] going to support policies that ensure that emerging technologies and that sort of industry can continue to grow…”
