I built my own 6ft privacy fence using £95 bamboo – it’s so much cheaper than wood & people say it’s ‘super sexy’

A WOMAN who was sick of her neighbours peeping into her garden, has revealed that she made her own six foot privacy fence for £95 using bamboo.

Although having a friendly rapport with our neighbours is great, often we want to prevent them from being able to see into our gardens, so that we can live privately.

And one woman has come up with the perfect solution to nosy neighbours.

Taking to Reddit, the homeowner shared a picture of the fence she had created in her garden.

It consisted of long strips of bamboo held together by larger planks of wood, giving the fence a chic and stylish look.

The woman said: “I’ve always wanted to try and use some bamboo without it looking like a Tiki bar.

“Came up with this for a privacy fence.”

Explaining how she made the fence, the woman revealed that she bought some 4×4 planks of wood for the outside frame of the fence, and then 1×3 planks to hold the bamboo together and hide the attachment screws.

She then picked up some 6×8 rolls of bamboo for £95 at a large hardware store.

“I used a clear sealant on the bamboo since I’ve read about weather degradation”, she said.

“It’s survived an upper Midwest (US) winter without any issues.”

Reddit users flooded the comments section of the post with praise for the DIY fence.

One person said: “Bamboo makes a privacy screen like none other in a fraction of the time and cost of other plants.”

Another person said: “This is seriously a super sexy fence. 10/10 would build.”

A third person said: “That’s very cool. The bamboo will far outlast the wood frame.”

How to get algae off fences

ABS Fencing shared a list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to cleaning green algae off your fence.

  • Don’t use household mould or mildew remover sprays as these are generally intended for use on hard surfaces indoor.
  • Don’t use bleach in the garden, it kills a lot more than the mould.
  • Don’t try sanding back the top surface of the wood, as algae will just regrow back.
  • Don’t bother with power hosing – that only opens up the timber grain and allows more water inside, making the problem worse down the line.
  • Do use white vinegar mixed with hot water in a spray bottle and work it in with a brush, leave for 30 mins or more, then hose down.
  • Do repaint when dry with good quality fence paint.

A fourth person added: “Love this. Bamboo can be tricky, but this was executed beautifully.”

A fifth person chimed in: “Oh that’s down right stunning. Love it!

“I’ve always hated regular fencing, and this is so well done!”
