Lugo shines in 5-0 win over Yankees
Can’t look much better than that!
Behind a dazzling start from Seth Lugo, the Royals evened up the series with a 5-0 shutout over the Yankees. It’s Kansas City’s third shutout in the last week.
Even though Lugo didn’t need much run support on Tuesday, the Royals made sure Yankees starter Marcus Stroman was dealing with a lot of base runners.
After failing to cash in during the first two innings, Kansas City finally broke through in the third. With one out and one on, Bobby Witt Jr ripped an RBI-single to left field to make it 1-0. Moments later, Salvador Perez smoked an RBI-double to extend the lead to two.

In the top of fifth, Perez came back up to the plate with a chance to reach 100 RBI on the season. That he did, as the 34-year-old poked one into center field — giving Kansas City a 3-0 advantage.

After Lugo’s departure, Kris Bubic and John Schreiber carried the momentum — putting away New York quietly.
