'Everybody needs to buckle down': Lower St. Martin Parish residents brace for Storm Francine's impact
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) --- As Storm Francine moves further east, residents of lower St. Martin Parish are bracing for impact.
Generators are being set up, sandbags are being filled, and windows are being boarded.
Katherine Landry has been a Stephensville resident for years. She said she has gone through her fair share of storms.
"It goes from the front most of the time. It hits real hard over here. So that's why we pick up everything and board it up," she said.
Some residents told News 10 that while they are not worried about Storm Francine, they understand what it could do.
"Everybody needs to buckle down and try to do what they have to do before it really hits because then it's too late," Landry said.
St. Martin Parish President Pete Delcambre said they are all hands on deck and are ready to assist the lower area of the parish before, during, and after the storm.
"They are St. Martin Parish," Delcambre said. "They are an integral part of St. Martin Parish. And we are here to assist and aid in any way possible."
St. Martin Parish government advises residents in the lower parts of the parish to voluntarily evacuate the area before the storm hits.
