78-year-old man killed in crash in Niagara County
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A 78-year-old male was killed in a motor vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Somerset, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office announced.
Officials said the crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Carmen and Lake Roads.
An initial investigation revealed that a Nissan was traveling northbound on Carmen Road when it allegedly failed to yield the right of way to a GMC that was traveling eastbound on Lake Road, police said.
The GMC, operated by a 77-year-old male, then struck the Nissan, operated by the 78-year-old male, when the GMC then went into a cornfield located northeast of the intersection and came to a rest, according to police. Officials said the Nissan stopped in the intersection upon the roadway.
The 77-year-old was transported by ambulance to Lockport Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and the 78-year-old was transported by Mercy Flight to ECMC where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later, officials said.
Police said the names of the people involved are being withheld at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
