Police accuse woman
of assaulting cyclist

Police arrested a woman on allegations she attacked a bicyclist with a metal pipe at Mahon Creek Path.

The incident happened Monday afternoon near Francisco Boulevard West, police Sgt. Justin Graham said. He said the attack was “completely unprovoked.”

The cyclist suffered minor injuries. Police found the suspect nearby, and she was still carrying the pipe, Graham said.

Tuesday Emma Hughes, 29, of San Rafael was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of committing an assault with a deadly weapon that wasn’t a firearm. Her bail amount was set at $50,000.

Permit sought for
takeout food site

The town planning office is reviewing a proposal for a “fast casual” takeout food business at 31 Main St.

The business, tentatively called “The Hold,” would be an annex to Sam’s Anchor Cafe, where the food would be prepared. The site would have no seating.

“The applicant has requested the hours of operation to be the same as those associated with Sam’s and to permit closure of the new takeout restaurant to be at 2:30 AM,” Dina Tasini, the director of the Community Development Department, wrote in a staff report. “Staff has considered this request and would recommend a reduction in the hours of operation since most full service restaurants end service between 10:00 and 11:00 pm.”

The Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing on whether to grant a conditional use permit during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Mini-storage centers
proposed at 2 sites

The city is reviewing two proposals to establish mini-storage businesses.

One would be on Marsh Drive at the interchange of Highway 37 and Highway 101. The center would include 43,820 square feet of rentable storage space in 281 lockers, according to the Community Development Department.

The other site is a 1.7-acre parcel at 501 Davidson St., southeast of downtown. It would include 633 lockers in several buildings, including one three stories tall, according to the city.

The Design Review Commission is planning to hold public hearings on the proposals at its meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at City Hall.

Board sets hearings
on 3 building plans

The city has scheduled Planning Commission hearings next week on three residential construction projects.

One project would involve tearing down the 5,450-square-foot residence at 322 San Rafael Ave. and building another home of the same size. The project would also include a swimming pool, a dock and other features. It requires a revocable license because of work in the public right of way, according to the city.

Another proposal calls for remodeling the former Christian Science Church at 501 San Rafael Ave. into a residence. The project also would involve demolishing an auxiliary building and constructing a two-car garage. The plan would require variances and a revocable license for work in the right of way.

The other plan, a 197-square-foot addition at 2 Golden Gate Ave., would require a floor area exception, a variance for a retaining wall in the setbacks and a revocable license for use of the right of way on Golden Gate Avenue and San Rafael Avenue, the city says.

The commission meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17.
