News and Notes for Tuesday, September 10th, 2024

The Guardians scored early and got six perfect innings from Joey Cantillo, beating the worst team in MLB history 5-3.

Cantillo was absolutely dominant going seven innings, giving up two hits, no walks, one run and striking out 10. This was a needed boost to the Guardians as they seek to manage Alex Cobb's blister. Ben Lively will start today as we all pray that Cobb is healthy enough to take a turn vs the Rays in Cleveland this weekend. Nick Sandlin gave up a bomb in the 8th, forcing Gaddis and Clase to close the game out. I did enjoy seeing Clase utterly befuddle Luis Robert on his way to another scorching ninth inning. You could hear Clase yelling explosives every pitch he threw because there were about 10 fans in the park and that was hilarious.

Meanwhile, the Guardians continued to struggle with runners in scoring position, going 1 for 14. But, David Fry and Bo Naylor homered (part of a 2-hit and a walk effort for Bo), Josh Naylor had two hits, Steven Kwan had a hit and two walks, and Jose Ramirez had a hit and a walk. Hopefully, the White Sox pitching staff will provide a chance for these guys to get in a rhythm.

Oh, Jhonkensy Noel also had two walks and continues to put up professional AB's. He needs to play every day. Big Christmas every day, Stephen.

One more win to take the season series. Please.

The Twins and Royals lost. The Guardians' magic number for the division is now 15.
