Tracking Francine: Much of Acadiana now under Hurricane Warning
(KLFY) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Warning regarding Tropical Storm Francine for the following parishes: Lafayette, Lower St. Martin, Upper Iberia, Upper St. Martin and Upper Vermilion.
A Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Warning are in effect for East Cameron, Lower Iberia, Lower St. Mary, Lower Vermilion, Upper St. Mary and West Cameron.
A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch are in effect for Northern Acadia, Southern Acadia and St. Landry.
A Hurricane Warning means hurricane-force winds are expected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours.
Forecasters say Francine will likely strengthen to a hurricane some time today. As of 7 a.m., the storm was about 400 miles south-southwest of Cameron or about 460 miles southwest of Morgan City, and moving north at about 5 mph.
