Woman shot to death during attempted robbery in Manhattan apartment: NYPD
LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A woman was fatally shot during an attempted robbery inside a Manhattan apartment building on Monday, according to the NYPD.
It happened around 11 p.m. in the Lower East Side. The woman's husband told police he was followed into his apartment building by two men, who then rode the elevator with him to the 8th floor.
The two men tried to rob the husband, causing a commotion in the hallway, according to authorities. The woman, identified as 57-year-old Ying Zhu Liu, heard the commotion and stepped into the hallway, per police.
That's when Liu was shot in the face, according to authorities. She was pronounced dead minutes later.
Her son, who is in his 30s, was also in the hallway at the time of the shooting, police said.
The suspects took off running, per police. One man was last seen wearing a half-red, half-black hoodie, black and white shoes, black pants with a white stripe down the leg and a black ski mask.
The other man was last seen wearing all black with a ski mask and black and white sneakers.
Police don't believe the suspects knew the victim, according to authorities.
