Major route across River Thames closes suddenly causing major delays in London
The sudden closure of London’s Rotherhithe Tunnel is causing congestion as drivers seek alternative routes across the Thames.
It has been blamed on ‘technical problems’ with ‘no estimate’ for when it will reopen, according to traffic monitor Inrix.com
Drivers face delays on both sides of the river due to the resulting increase in traffic over Tower Bridge, through Blackwall Tunnel and at Woolwich Ferry.
There have also been delays reported in Shadwell and Whitechapel, as well as along Jamaica Road through Bermondsey.
