Volkswagen have revealed the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice – a one-off creation that has been inspired by the Golf Mk2 ‘Fire and Ice’ special edition that was released back in 1990.

Designed together with the fashion brand Bogner, run by fashion designer and film director Willy Bogner, the unique design is adored by VW fans and has gained a cult status among enthusiasts.

The original 90s look included a dark violet pearl effect paint finish, alloy wheels, front spoiler and body extensions and became a surprise success – with a total of 16,700 units sold, while only 10,000 units were planned.

Much like its older brother, the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice comes with a deep purple paint finish – with the show car sporting an exclusive three-layer paint finish that uses a specially developed Electric Violet pearl effect.

The special glass beads also change colour from dark blue to violet or black, depending on the light, and there are anodised Flaming Red accents along the roof.

The striking motor also features a geometric pattern along its sides, while the 21-inch rims come with a unique blue anodised paint finish.

Naturally, the original Fire+Ice logo from 1990 can be found on the B-pillar and the roof spoiler.

Andreas Mindt, who is the Head of Design at Volkswagen, said: “With the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice, we are emphasising how highly emotional our sporty top model is.

“Our design team had incredible fun reinterpreting the iconic 90s design and thus developing it further.”

Even the motor’s interior matches the Fire+Ice theme – with the driver’s side and the passenger seating behind using Flaming Red stitching and accents, while the passenger-side seats get Ice Blue detailing.

Cooler still, the ID.3’s normal accelerator pedal now has a flame symbol on it, while the brake pedal has a snowflake.

Fans of luxury clothes will especially love the colours and fabrics used for the cabin – all taken from Bogner’s Fire+Ice clothing range.

The stylish EV packs plenty of punch too, with a 321bhp motor that takes it from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds – the same as the ordinary Volkswagen ID.3 GTX.

The little VW has only recently gone on sale in the UK, with prices starting from £46,225.

This comes as a group of car experts recently revealed to Sun Motors their top pick for a versatile hatchback that’s “spacious and well-equipped”.

And last week, the Sun Motors main man Rob Gill celebrated the Volkswagen Golf’s 50th birthday by driving the new Life iteration, which he said “moves effortlessly and is full of excellent touches”.
