Migrants intercepted leaving Cyprus

A group of migrants who attempted to travel from Cyprus to Italy early on Tuesday morning were intercepted by authorities off the coast of Akrotiri.

At around 3.30am, a coast guard patrol vessel stopped the boat seven nautical miles off Zakaki. Twelve men, three women and five children were on board.

The passengers were safely transported to Limassol port. Initial investigations indicate that the boat had set off from the Moni area, aiming to reach Italy.
