Stakeholders to meet on GSI
All stakeholders involved in the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project, dubbed Great Sea Interconnector or GSI, are expected to attend a meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday afternoon.
The meeting, scheduled for 3.30pm, will be chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides.
Energy Minister George Papanastasiou, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos and the president are expected to attend the meeting on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, along with Greek Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis.
Representatives from the European Commission, IPTO (Admie) the Greek independent power authority and NEXANS, as well as from the legal service of the Republic of Cyprus are also joining.
“The importance of the Crete – Cyprus electricity interconnection project both as a strategic project and in terms of its economic dimension and the role it can play in the energy planning of our country and the EU is indisputable”, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis had said in a written statement.
The aim of the meeting is to have all parties present at the same time to provide answers to the government’s clarifying questions and to avoid any ambiguity about the project.
However, final decisions on the part of the government are not expected to be made at the end of the meeting.
