Oktoberfest to kickoff with Bavarian-style band
It might be too early to think about autumn activities and festivals yet there is an upcoming one that will bring plenty of German-themed fun, music and tradition. To celebrate Oktoberfest in Cyprus a band will put on a lively performance in Paphos in the authentic German Oompah Band style.
On October 4, the Music in the Mountains series will present an Oktoberfest extravaganza. John’s Restaurant in Trimiklini will host the Bierstein Blasmusik band which will play uplifting folksy German music that is typically performed at Oktoberfest events. The band is made up of nine musicians who celebrate five years of playing together.
George Georgiou on clarinet, Elli Michael on soprano saxophone, Christos Loizides and Janet Baker on trumpet, Steve Walkley on trombone, Jim Adair on euphonium, Tom Lisset on tuba, Majiek Kielak on accordion and David Martin on drums make up the band that is set to perform next month.
“It is (as far as we know) unique in being the only band of its kind in Cyprus,” say organisers about the band. “The musicians are drawn from a variety of different musical backgrounds, and their repertoire is based on typical traditional Bavarian style Oktoberfest music but also encompasses a wider mix of styles and genres, including singalong medleys, instrumental features, and pop covers – to add some variety, but all in an Oompah style.”
Get ready for an entertaining and high-quality musical performance that will bring a bit of German culture to Cyprus’ west coast.
