Lexar showcases world first stainless steel SD cards
Lexar has unveiled what it claims to be a world-first in stainless steel encased SD cards.
The new products, IP68 certified, contain “bend-resistance” and join the company’s Armor Series alongside durable, portable SSDs and other items.
Two new ranges have been added to the line-up, the Armor Gold SD UHS-II, and Armor Silver Pro SD UHS-II cards.
Within the market, the best SD cards are known to be durable as standard with no moving parts, but some are better than others. Wear and tear puts demands on the cards and you need to be able to trust your product, especially when some appear to crack along the seams.
Armor has presented its new offerings as being particularly rugged, providing IP68 waterproofing, dust proofing, and bend resistance, with a recommendation for outdoor filming.
On that basis, they should be much more formidable than regular plastic casings.
Lexar showcase at IFA 2024 in Berlin
Lexar has detailed the Gold and Silver Pro products offering read speeds of up to 280 MB/s, with PCle technology for flawless 8K RAW filming. These credentials have plenty to offer but Lexar has another ace up its sleeve.
The Lexar Professional Gold Pro SDXC Express card offers a staggering read speed of up to 1700 MB/s and is SD 8.0 certified. This provides an ideal solution for slow-mo videos and other tasks requiring large volumes of data to be processed quickly.
The Lexar Armor Gold and Armor Silver Pro cards will be available in capacities of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, but price details have not yet been released.
Lexar has also added further storage products to its range, as displayed at IFA 2024 in Berlin. In addition to the new SD cards, the brand showcased items like the Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD with Hub. It has been mooted as a next-generation mobile video resource with speeds of up to 1050 MB/s.
