We hear from Duncan Idehen

Central defender Duncan Idehen this week gave his first interview since arriving at the Brandywell at the end of the recent transfer window, when he spoke with the club’s official website about his move to Ireland.

The 22-year old joined from Bristol City at the end of August following loan spells at Yeovil and Bath City.

He was among the Candystripes’ substitutes for the game in Galway following International clearance and said he had settled in really well since arriving in the North West.

“It’s a really good group and they’ve made me feel very welcome since I joined” he began.

“Although I haven’t played competitively yet, I did play in a recent friendly and I’d like to think I can add something during my time here.

“My game is about aggression and winning the ball, but I’m comfortable carrying the ball out as well and feel that our style of play suits that.

Asked if he had been surprised by the standard so far, Duncan suggested that he had an idea that the League of Ireland would have been pretty decent.

“There were Irish lads at Bristol City and they were really good players who had come through both leagues here- Mark Sykes (NIFL) and Adam Murphy (LOI) so I thought it must be decent.

“Obviously I’m fully aware as well that we’re heading into the last couple of months of our season and with a chance of winning both of the main trophies.

“I’ve signed for next year as well and I’m looking forward to seeing what that brings, but I’m here and ready for whatever might be needed during the run-in too.

“These are exciting times for everyone involved with the club and the supporters and I very much want to be a part of that.

“The players are buying into what the manager and staff are creating here and it would be amazing to bring success to the club.

“I’m happy to be here and looking forward to making my competitive debut for Derry City.”
