'Crazy': Shouting erupts on CNN as Dem says Trump 'protects and projects' white supremacy

A heated discussion erupted into shouts on CNN on Monday night during a debate over former President Donald Trump's support among different ethnic groups, with a Democratic strategist vehemently defending the notion that the MAGA leader "protects and projects" the idea of white supremacy.

The debate sparked on "NewsNight" with anchor Abby Phillip when Republican David Urban noted that despite all of Trump's "warts" he's still in a "dead heat!"

"He may be president again because that's how terrible this administration is," he said. "That's how terrible they are!"

Democratic strategist Keith Boykin jumped in and shared what he said "really bothers him" about these discussions.

"I never really talk about this because it's not politically correct to say it, but he's in a dead heat because of white people," said Boykin, to which Urban shook his head in disagreement. "The majority of white people support Donald Trump."

He noted white voters supported Trump in 2016 and 2020, and would likely do so again in November.

"If it were up to Black people or Latinos, Asian-Americans and other people of color, he would lose in a landslide," he said.

As Boykin tried to continue, Urban and the rest of the panel started talking over each in raised voices, with Urban asserting Trump is gaining with Black men and Hispanics, and Brian Stelter maintaining it's "still about white dominance."

Boykin then continues, saying Trump is in the lead because he "protects and projects the idea of protecting white supremacy. That's what's resonating. People are talking about economic anxiety in 2016 and then Trump went off and he led a cavalcade of racism."

Urban vehemently disagreed, shaking his head and trying to talk over Boykin and another panelist who tried to interject, "No that's ... Keith, that's crazy. Be serious."

"I'm 100% sure," shot back Boykin.

Phillip jumped in and pushed back on Boykin's claim, asking why Trump is improving with Black voters.

"He's not improving with Black voters," insisted Boykin.

"Yes he is!" shouted Urban.

"No he's not improving," shouted Boykin, slamming a hand on the table. "No! I'm sorry he's not improving with —"

"Keith, you're delusional," said Urban.

After a brief back-and-forth debate between Boykin and Phillip, who noted Trump has improved his support with Black voters since 2016, Urban noted that Stelter also disagreed with Boykin.

"He's clearly growing support!" shouted Stelter, adding: "But it's not just about white dominance — it's about male dominance!"
