TWO woke universities have told students not to say “middle-aged” — for fear of offending people in their 40s and 50s.

Bristol and York St. John warned scholars in inclusivity writing guides to try to “avoid” the term.

Some of the terms universities recommend their students avoid

York recommended that its 6,500 undergraduates swerve using any age and instead adopt “a specific number rather than a category”.

It also suggests ditching “OAPs” for “people of pensionable age” and “kids” for “children” in its campaign against “harmful attitudes”.

Bristol wants its 30,000 students to drop all “labels” — such as Baby Boomer and Gen X — as they “reinforce negative stereotypes”.

York St. John said the guidelines were “recommendations”.

It added: “We are not banning words and support freedom of speech.”

Right-on Bristol, which has removed the national anthem from graduation dos, declined to comment.
