Since 2012, the V/H/S franchise has been consistently delivering smart, scary thrills and developing a growing following among horror fans.

Normally, after 12 years and six movies, excitement for the next sequel begins to run dry.

But the anthology format enables the V/H/S folks to keep things freshly frightening year after year.

Thus, anticipation for V/H/S/Beyond is through the roof a full three weeks before the film’s premiere on Shudder.

And we now have a poster and teaser to further whet your appetite as spooky season kicks into high gear.

The trailer doesn’t give much away plot-wise (although we are promised “the biggest discovery in human history,” which is nothing to sneeze at).

We have the same lo-fi, found footage aesthetic as the previous V/H/S flicks, but it looks like this one will be taking us in more of a sci-fi direction.

Fans of Event Horizon and the Alien films, rejoice!

In keeping with tradition, Beyond will feature a slate of shorts directed by some of the best-known names in the world of horror, as well as a handful of newcomers.

Further ratcheting up the excitement among horror aficionados is the fact that this installment features a segment directed by Katie Siegel and written by her husband and frequent collaborator, Mike Flanagan.

Flanagan, of course, is the mad genius behind such hit Netflix limited series as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

Siegel has turned in memorable performances in all of those series (who could forget her turn as Theo Crain in Hill House?) as well as in Flanagan feature films such as Oculus, Hush, and the upcoming Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck.

The film also features directorial contributions from actor Justin Long and V/H/S franchise veteran Justin Martinez.

It’s an embarrassment of riches for horror fans, and folks who busted out their Halloween decorations the day after Labor Day are sure to have this one on repeat.

V/H/S/Beyond is set to debut on Shudder on October 4.
