New ‘Saturday Night’ trailer: Live, from New York, another look at Jason Reitman’s crowd-pleaser [Watch]
With Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” set to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, Sony released a new trailer for the real-time comedy thriller on Monday, touting the strong early reviews for the project after its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this month.
Based on original interviews Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan conducted with several original “Saturday Night Live” cast members and crew personnel, “Saturday Night” unfolds 90 minutes before the first broadcast of the now-legendary sketch comedy series. “The Fabelmans” breakout Gabriel LaBelle stars as “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels, with an all-star cast of up-and-coming talent playing several other real-life contributors, including Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, and Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol.
The film will debut in limited release on September 27 before a wider rollout through October 11 – the 49th anniversary of the first-ever “SNL” broadcast. With its crowd-pleasing nature and rat-tat-tat pacing, “Saturday Night” is a darkhorse Best Picture contender and could put Reitman back into the screenplay race for the first time since 2009’s “Up in the Air.”
