East Bay police officers spotted duo with Halloween masks and costumes; they weren’t trick-or-treating

ANTIOCH — Halloween costumes and masks came out early last week, but police said the intent was not to spook strangers or gather candy.

In this case, the two people wearing masks were carrying ammunition and pushing shopping carts full of costumes stolen from a nearby holiday store, police said in a social media post. One of them had a prior felony conviction, police added.

One wore a skeleton mask, police said. The other a Michael Myers mask, made popular in the Halloween movie series.

Police arrested both of them Sept. 5 on suspicion of burglary and unlawful possession of ammunition. Police said the costumes and masks were from the Spirit Halloween store in the 2500 block of Somersville Road.

Officers were called to the store by somebody who told police that two people were in the store with a flashlight. Authorities didn’t say Monday morning what time the call came in last week.

Police said security footage confirmed that the two were involved in the break-in of the store.
