Widespread rain with heavy rainfall possible, tropics getting active
The wet pattern will continue through the next few days. It hasn't been a bad pattern for us, however, as we've been dry and this rain has been beneficial to the area. We haven't seen any major flash flooding issue thus far and hopefully that continues into today.
I'm not expecting an areal, more substantial, flood threat as rainfall totals should stay reasonable and the ground can tolerate a lot of it at the moment. Expect rain coverage of around 80-90% for today, starting near the coast this morning and moving northward through the afternoon. Hopefully we get a break this evening, which has been the trend each day.
Tomorrow looks similar, although rain coverage may be slightly less. The heaviest rainfall possibility will remain along and south of I-10.
A weak front tries to make a push towards the area Monday and Tuesday. This may temporarily push the area of highest moisture more offshore, which will lower rain chances into the 40-50% range. This may allow for slightly warmer temperatures as we see a little more sunshine.
This will be short-lived, however, as deep tropical moisture returns by the middle and end of next week, which will bring back widespread tropical rainfall.
TROPICS
The tropics are getting active with multiple areas being watched.
The first area is the low pressure causing the rainfall for us. This broad area of low pressure may further develop right near our coast through the next few days. Development chances with this area, however, appear low. This low pressure will meander near the Louisiana coast through next week.
The second area may have a more concerning future. A tropical wave, currently across the central Atlantic, will be moving westward into the Caribbean and could be in the western Caribbean in about a week. Some models are latching on to this wave, developing it into a hurricane down the road. Interests in the Caribbean will have to watch this system closely through the next several days.
Further out, another tropical wave in the Atlantic could develop through the next few days.
