Nice weekend ahead, possible tropical system eyes the area next week

0

A front has moved through the area, which will give us nicer weather for this weekend. With the exception of a few showers south of I-10 today, rain chances will go down to the 20% range. We'll keep the clouds around, however, which will hold temperatures in the mid-80s through the afternoon. We'll see northeasterly winds behind the front, giving us a dose of drier air.

These northeasterly winds will continue through tomorrow. Tomorrow looks beautiful with highs in the mid-upper 80s and mostly sunny skies! Plan your outdoor activities tomorrow, because weather looks to go downhill again for next week.

Starting Monday, tropical moisture will stream back northward, with rain chances increasing to about 30%.

A broad low pressure system is going to develop in the southwestern Gulf Monday and Tuesday. This low will rapidly move northward Wednesday and through early Thursday. It will bring deep tropical moisture with it and increase rain chances Tuesday and Wednesday. Some global models try to consolidate this low, developing it into a tropical system as it approaches the Texas/Louisiana coast. Most models show a tropical storm at best, but of course, having a tropical system develop would change the forecast a bit. For starters, a tropical system concentrates the heavier rainfall near the center, which could lead to more of a flash flooding threat. Also, a tropical storm would bring some elevated winds, especially offshore by Wednesday. Even if the system does develop, models do not show anything too strong, but it's something we'll have to monitor for sure. Either way, expect heavy rainfall both Tuesday and Wednesday with breezy conditions.

The low pressure looks to move north, lowering rain chances by Friday.
