ROSENDALE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The 27th annual Rosendale International Pickle Festival is set to return to the Ulster County Fairgrounds on Sunday, Oct. 10. The festival will include a variety of pickles, pickled fruits and vegetables from over 150 vendors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When the festival first began in 1997, organizers highlighted Japan and Japanese pickling techniques. The next year, they highlighted German techniques.

In 2000, they joined forces with Mt. Olive and Vlassic Pickle companies for help getting different flavors and prizes. Years later, the festival still works with the companies but also many pickle businesses located in and out of state, featuring different styles of pickling.

At the festival, both visitors and vendors can enter a pickling contest under different categories. The categories include Dill Pickles, Sweet Pickles, Professional Pickles, Pickled fruit, Pickled Root Vegetables, Pickled Mixed Vegetables and single Pickled Vegetables.

In the afternoon, a Pickle Triathlon of eating, drinking and pickle tossing will commence. Both adults and kids can participate under their own divisions.

In addition to contests, craft and grocery vendors will be spread-out throughout the fairgrounds. Local bands from Rosendale and Ulster County will be performing on the main stage throughout the day.

Tickets for the festival are $5 per person, kids under 12 are free. All proceeds earned at the festival will go back to the Rosendale community.

The festival is rain or shine. For more information on attending, participating in contests or becoming a vendor, visit their website.
