‘Not many players can do that’ – Solanke praises ‘rare’ talent of Tottenham teammate
While Dominic Solanke has not had much chance to show what he can do on the pitch himself, he has spent time training and getting acquainted with his new teammates at Tottenham, and he’s been very impressed by one player in particular.
Solanke raves about Spurs skipper
Spurs went all out to bring in a new striker this summer, spending a reported £65m on Solanke, but they’re yet to see any return on that.
The forward made his debut in the first league game of the season but was unable to find the back of the net in a 1-1 draw against Leicester. He did pick up an injury though, and Spurs fans are hoping he will be back for the impending North London derby at the weekend.
Taking time to discuss his new surroundings and teammates, Solanke revealed just how impressed he has been by seeing his captain, Heung-min Son, up close and in action in training.
Asked by Sky Sports Premier League who the best finisher at the club is, Solanke replied: “I would probably say Sonny. It’s something rare to be so good. Right foot and left foot. Not many players can do that.
“To be both footed and be great at finishing on both of them is incredible. Yeah, he does [train how he plays]. He’s a great leader. One of the nicest guys I have met, to be honest. On the pitch, you see what he does on the weekends and it’s exactly the same in training.”
A Spurs legend
Son has got off to a decent start this term, bagging two goals already in three games. The South Korean played the last two games more centrally in Solanke’s absence, but is expected to return to the left-win when his teammate is back fit.
He is now the club’s fourth-highest goalscorer of all time with 164 goals. Only Bobby Smith, Jimmy Greaves, and Harry Kane have more.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can only imagine what it’s like for players to see Son in training, finishing the way he does with both feet. He is a spectacular talent and we are very lucky to have been graced with his presence over the last nine years.
