Postecoglou is an open book at Tottenham

With Postecoglou, it seems quite clear that what you see is what you get, with the Australian not being one for pleasantries and preferring to get on with business.

Even though the 59-year-old could be jovial in press conferences, he comes across as a no-nonsense character and he has already proven at Spurs that he has concrete principles he is extremely wedded to, whether that be his footballing philosophy or the behaviour he expects from others.

Maddison insisted that the Tottenham boss is also a great person at heart who cares about the well-being of his players.

The 27-year-old told Golf Life about the Australian: “He is definitely no-nonsense. He’s a good man. He’s a unique human being. You can tell he’s a brilliant man and when I spoke to him before I signed the first thing he said to me was congratulating me on the birth of my twins when I first met him.”

Postecoglou keeps a distance from his players

However, the England international confessed that Postecoglou does not like to build too much of a personal rapport with players like his former Leicester boss, Brandan Rodgers used to.

Maddison added: “So I knew straight away he’s a good man but he’s also someone who will not let the manager and player relationship get too tight. And that is just his way. For example like Brendan Rodgers who I had for five years at Leicester, he was very arm around you and made you feel so good.

“You could go in his office for a coffee and talk. They’re both great men but just different. Ange keeps that manager and player relationship socially to a minimum, he wouldn’t mind me saying that I don’t think.”

“Again, even though he doesn’t talk to you individually as much as someone like Brendan Rodgers, I would still feel that he believes in me by the way he is and the way he conducts himself and talks in the meetings. He believes in me without me needing to hear it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou has talked publicly about his unwillingness to get too close to the players to ensure his personal relationship does not infringe on his decisions.

Doing so has another additional benefit of the squad not getting sick of his voice and his messages having more of an impact when he addresses the side.
