Persona’s next entry is here and fans have waited 17 years to play a version this good
VERY few people have experienced the full story of one of Sega’s most popular games for themselves.
That is because the epilogue to Persona 3 has only been released once, and is no longer available to purchase on any modern consoles.
The Answer sees you play as Aigis, as her sister Metis joins the team[/caption]Persona 3: The Answer was only released as part of Persona 3 FES, an upgrade to Persona 3 for the PS2 and later the PS3.
While FES was more popular than the original game due to the quality-of-life changes and extra content, The Answer never got the same love the base game did.
Taking place after the end of Persona 3 and the protagonist’s death, The Answer mostly consists of a 200-floor dungeon called the Abyss of Time.
Grieving for their loss, the characters get stuck in a literal time loop as they try to come to terms with their feelings.
It was unpopular at the time for a number of reasons, with the main one being its brutal difficulty.
The Answer is stuck on hard difficulty, in an already difficult game, and your teammates make the worst decisions in battle.
This means most fights feel like it’s you against the world as the AI fails to make any impact.
Persona 3’s characters also act very differently, often struggling with their loss and lashing out at each other.
This is what upset fans the most, as friendship is at the core of the series, and people didn’t like watching their favourites fight.
Fans were conflicted when they found out that The Answer would be added to Persona 3 Reload.
It would finally give them a chance to play the epilogue, without the frustrating difficulty, and see the story for themselves.
And if you want to play The Answer, this DLC is definitely the best way to do it; not only are there the usual difficulty settings from the base game, but all of Reload’s combat upgrades too.
Party members can be controlled, shift, and do powerful Theurgy attacks, making battles more strategic and fun.
It also adds in Monad doors, with difficult fights that reward you with great gear, and the clocks that allow you to instantly level up unused party members.
It also recontextualises the story by adding in more scenes between the characters, showing more of their mental states after the loss of the protagonist.
Everything about the Episode Aigis remake is an improvement over the original, but it can’t get away from the core of the epilogue.
While additional scenes and story elements help to break up the dungeon crawling, at its core The Answer is just a second Tartarus for players to explore.
