PlayStation quietly increases the price of its most-used accessory before PS5 Pro likely drops
WHEN PlayStation increases its prices there is usually a blog post or announcement made comparing the old and new prices.
However, it seems that Sony is trying its best to hide the latest price increase behind what is believed to be a presentation for the PS5 Pro.
The price of every PS5 controller has increased[/caption]PlayStation announced that there will be a Technical Presentation for the PS5 tomorrow (Tuesday, September 10, 2024).
The presentation will be nine minutes long and “will focus on PS5 and innovations in gaming technology.”
You can watch the livestream on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel from 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm BST.
This will likely be the announcement for the PS5 Pro after a new PS5 design was spotted in the 30th Anniversary promotional image.
The design matches one that was leaked online, which was allegedly based on the final PS5 Pro design document.
It appears that the accessory price increase was quietly dropped before this announcement so that it would be overshadowed.
PlayStation is raising the price of the PS5 DualSense controller in most regions around the world.
The price is increasing by $5/£5 across the board, with the final price depending on the colour of the controller.
PlayStation’s standard white, blue, pink and black controllers have increased from $70/£60 to $75/£65.
Other colours, including volcanic red, and sterling silver have increased from $75/£65 to $80/£70.
Traditionally, game consoles and accessories have decreased in price over a console’s lifespan, but this generation Xbox and PlayStation have both increased their hardware prices.
The biggest PS5 price increase has been seen in Japan, where console prices have increased by 40% since launch.
It is likely that PlayStation increased the price of its controllers before the Technical Presentation for two main reasons.
Firstly, to conceal the price change, and secondly as it believes that people will buy controllers following the release of a new console.
Consoles usually come with one controller, so people often buy a second one to play with friends.
Many people have been holding out for the PS5 Pro, as many games are still released simultaneously on PS4 and PS5, giving less reason to upgrade.
By skipping the base model PS5 and going straight to the Pro version, people can save a lot of money.
