57th Human Rights Council Session to begin with focus on Afghanistan
The Acting Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the UN Human Rights Council has announced the start of the 57th council session in Geneva, emphasizing that the human rights situation in Afghanistan will be a key topic of discussion.
In a video posted on X, Nasir Ahmad Andisha explained that the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council began today, September 9, and will continue for the next two days.
He noted that examining the human rights situation in Afghanistan will be one of the main subjects of this session, and the mandate of Richard Bennett, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur, will be extended during the meeting.
Mr. Andisha also mentioned that Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, will present his report on human rights violations.
The ongoing session underscores the international community’s continued focus on Afghanistan’s human rights issues.
