PlayStation’s best game this year receives free DLC with some interesting cameos
DESPITE being less than a week out from release, Astro Bot will likely be the best PlayStation game of 2024.
It has received an outstanding 94 rating on review aggregate site Metacritic, and players are equally singing its praises.
Astro Bot is a fast, fluid and fun 3D platformer that mixes excellent gameplay with all things PlayStation.
This celebration does not only extend to the game being a PS5 exclusive, but includes the numerous cameos you can find throughout.
Of the 300 bots you can find throughout Astro Bot, more than 170 are cameos of characters from PlayStation’s most popular games.
While fan-favourite PlayStation games like Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and God of War were all represented, people were upset by other omissions.
Luckily, Team Asobi and Sony have said that last week’s release isn’t the only Astro Bot we’ll gain this year.
Game director Nicolas Doucet announced on YouTube channel Quest Daily that more content for the 3D platformer was on the way.
Not only did he announce that DLC is on the horizon but that it will be free for all players.
Doucet claims that speedrun mode will be the priority for the team, as this is the mode that Astro’s Playroom’s players most enjoyed.
This will allow people to record times and compare them to other players on online leaderboards.
However, the biggest reveal was that more cameos would be added in the update, and fans think they’ve spotted some of them.
Douchet said that “some characters we didn’t include yet will appear” in the coming update, and players realised that there were a number of games mentioned in the credits that didn’t have cameos.
These include Assassin’s Creed, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Beyond Good & Evil, Rayman, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and Worms.
Doucet also said that the team are adding something with “a bit toy-feeling” for players, but said that the next update is focused on adding more challenge for players.
This means that the mysterious toy feature might be added in a future update instead.
Players are thrilled that they will be able to grab more content for Astro Bot free of charge, particularly when games are increasingly charging for everything they can.
