Arrest warrant issued after homophobic attack in Limassol
An arrest warrant was issued on Monday morning for the man believed to have instigated a homophobic attack in Limassol this weekend, a security guard with martial arts knowledge.
Police are investigating offences related to a homophobic attack and causing bodily harm to a young man in Limassol on Saturday.
The young man reported the assault and police are evaluating footage from CCTV systems.
According to the report, offensive comments regarding his sexual orientation were shouted at the young man while he was walking with a friend outside a nightclub in Limassol.
He said he was attacked and beaten when he asked the reason for the insults.
He was taken to a private clinic and discharged on Sunday.
Limassol Accept LGBTI deplored the assault, saying that it was a “cowardly attack against people of our community.
“Let us make it clear that no assault, either verbal or bodily, will be tolerated,” the organisation said.
It called on its members, the police, the mayor and the Limassol municipal council, as well as all authorities, to condemn the attack and take appropriate measures to make sure it did not go unpunished.
“Bullying, any kind of violence and hateful behaviour at will is neither accepted nor tolerated,” it added.
