BCCI’s vice-captaincy decision for first Bangladesh Test leaves everyone baffled
Amid the rumours around Jasprit Bumrah being potentially rested for the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh, the star pacer ended up finding a place in the squad for the first Test. While some big names like Rishabh Pant returned to the squad, some big names like Mohammed Shami also ended up missing it.
On the other hand, a decision of the BCCI selection committee also ended up raising several eyebrows and that was the absence of a designated vice-captain.
When India took on England in their last Test series, Bumrah was named the vice-captain. However, no such role was allotted by the selection committee this time, making fans wonder what changed.
Bumrah is seen as one of the leaders in the team alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Even Pant and KL Rahul are both very-well respected in the team as they have been playing for quite some time now. While Kohli doesn’t want to be associated with a leadership role, both Pant and Rahul are in the fray of taking up long-term captaincy in the Test format for the Men in Blue. However, they too didn’t get the nod for the vice-captaincy role for Bangladesh Tests.
The Board didn’t explain heir decision of not appointing a vice-captain for the series so, there is a huge possibility that both Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir will be questioned on the topic during the pre-match press conference.
