As a result of our early childhood traumatization involving our mothers and our fathers, we are locked in psychologically early in our childhood to the bipolar "shadow" forms of the four masculine archetypes of maturity in the male psyche. Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette discuss these "shadow" forms in terms of what they refer to as Boy Psychology in their accessible 1990 book King, Warrior, Magician, Lover (pp. 13-42).
