Red Sox Wrap: Ugly Ninth Inning Dooms Boston In Loss To White Sox

The Red Sox weren't able to complete a sweep over the White Sox on Sunday when they fell 7-2 at Fenway Park.

Boston fell to 72-71 with the loss, while Chicago improved to 33-111.

You can check out a full box score here.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
The Red Sox might have something in Richard Fitts.

Fitts was promoted to the big leagues a few hours before first pitch and made his MLB debut in the finale. The 24-year-old was impressive out of the gate, allowing only two hits over the first three frames. Fitts also impressively handled adversity in the fourth when he allowed back-to-back singles to start the inning before inducing a fly out and an inning-ending double play.

The right-hander ran into trouble in the sixth, but the blame was shared with Triston Casas, whose inning-opening error led to Chicago scoring a game-tying run. But Fitts buckled down to record two outs in the inning before giving way to Greg Weissert, who also was acquired in the offseason Alex Verdugo trade.

When all was said and done, Fitts allowed two runs (zero earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk over 5 2/3 innings. Not too shabby for your first outing in The Show.

STARS OF THE GAME
-- Connor Wong shined the brightest on offense for Boston. The backstop went 3-for-4 with a double and a 401-foot home run that opened the scoring in the second.

-- Luis Robert Jr. matched Wong in hits, leading the way for the visitors with a 3-for-4 performance.

-- Wilyer Abreu was the only other Red Sox starter to log multiple. Like Wong, the talented outfielder logged a double and a solo home run.

-- Dominic Fletcher smacked a go-ahead RBI double in the ninth, while Jacob Amaya (RBI single) and Zach DeLoach (two-RBI single) added insurance in the same frame.
