It Takes More Than One
The Baltimore Orioles fell 7-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. The offense was sparse (6 hits) with only one extra-base hit, a sixth inning homerun off the bat of Cedric Mullins (1 for 2, HR, R, RBI).
The remaining five hits were all singles, and the team went 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position. The Orioles mounted threats on the basepaths in the second, third and fourth innings but could not cash in.
Zach Eflin (10-8) took the loss, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits (2 HR), walking 1 and striking out 4 in 5.2 innings of work.
Gregory Soto relieved Eflin and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 1 hit with a walk and a strikeout in 0.1 inning.
Burch Smith (1.0 IP, R, H, BB, K) and Craig Kimbrel (1.0 IP, R, H, BB, K) each allowed a run in an inning of relief.
