Red Sox Make Decision On Bobby Dalbec With Season Winding Down

Sunday might have marked the end of the road for Bobby Dalbec in the Red Sox organization.

Boston announced it designated Dalbec for assignment a few hours before its series finale against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park. At the time of the transaction, Dalbec was hitting .255 with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs through 85 games with Triple-A Worcester.

A 2016 fourth-round draft pick by the Red Sox, Dalbec broke into the big leagues with Boston in 2020 and quickly impressed as a rookie, hitting eight home runs in his first 23 games. But things quickly went south for the 29-year-old, who hit .240 and .215 in his first two full seasons with the Red Sox. Dalbec was effectively a non-factor for Alex Cora's club in 2024, hitting a measly .133 over 37 games with Boston.

Cutting ties with Dalbec wasn't the only roster move the Red Sox made on Sunday. Boston also activated Richard Fitts, who was acquired in the Alex Verdugo trade with the New York Yankees. Fitts will make his big league debut as Boston's starter for its series finale against the South Siders.
