Women’s DPL T20 2024: Upasana Yadav’s Astonishing Century Helps North Delhi Strikers Women Clinch Victory In Final

0

New Delhi: Upasana Yadav stole the show on Sunday by smashing a historic ton at the Adani Women’s Delhi Premier League title with a 10-run victory over the South Delhi Superstarz Women in the final at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Yadav made history by smashing the league’s first-ever century, an unbeaten 114 off just 67 balls. Her explosive knock, laced with 18 boundaries and three sixes, powered North Delhi to a commanding total of 179/3 in their 20 overs.

In response, South Delhi’s chase was led by Tanisha Singh, who fought valiantly with 72 off 40 balls, but her effort fell short as her team ended up at 169/8, 10 runs shy of the target. South Delhi began aggressively in pursuit of 180, but openers Chhavi Gupta (20 runs off 20 balls) and Shweta Sehrawat (13 runs off 11 balls) were back in the pavilion by the end of the powerplay, with the score at 46/2. Singh then built a crucial 38-run partnership with Riya Soni, but Soni’s dismissal in the 11th over left South Delhi at 84/3.

Tanisha Singh held the innings together, forming a 60-run stand with Nidhi Mahto, bringing the score to 144/4 in the 17th over. However, Bharti Rawal removed Mahto (15 off 16), and Soni Yadav struck twice in the 18th over, dismissing both Singh and R Priyadarshini, leaving South Delhi in trouble at 151/6. Despite a late stir from Ekta Bhadana and Manju Godara, who added 15 runs in the 19th over, South Delhi needed 14 from the final six balls. Nazma Sultana delivered a disciplined last over, taking two crucial wickets and sealing the win for North Delhi Strikers as South Delhi ended on 169/8.

Earlier, North Delhi lost Mansi Sharma (0 off 5) early, but Yadav took charge of the innings. Partnering with Monika, she guided the team to 50/1 by the end of the powerplay. Though Monika was dismissed for 19 off 15 in the seventh over, Yadav continued her onslaught, reaching her fifty in 36 balls and eventually racing to a century in just 62 deliveries. Ayushi Soni provided steady support with 31 off 34, as North Delhi posted a formidable 179/3. South Delhi’s Aarti Kumari was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2/34.

Yadav’s heroics ensured North Delhi Strikers Women emerged as champions of the Adani Women’s Delhi Premier League T20.
