PAL to expand Borongan-Cebu flights before September ends

0

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Airlines will be launching a Wednesday flight for its Borongan-Cebu route before the end of September — adding this to the weekly Monday and Friday schedule of the route.

“This is a significant step in making travel more accessible for Boronganons and residents of nearby towns, not only in our provinces, but also in the adjacent areas of Northern Samar,” Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda said.

Agda expects that with more flights to the city, the local economy would further benefit from tourism.

The flagship airline is the only one that offers flights to Borongan City from Manila via a transfer at Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

The local government unit (LGU) noted high demand for the route both from the community and others visiting either the city or the Eastern Samar province. It currently offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport.

“Our dream was to establish a sustainable model for a commercial airline operator to partner with us. Now, we have achieved more than we initially aimed for,” said Rupert Ambil, Borongan’s chairman of Flight Operations and City Information Officer.

“Our team is focused on continuously improving systems to support the needs of national agencies and to simplify travel for everyone. The key takeaway is that we need more flights with the same aircraft capacity, not necessarily a larger aircraft, to maintain sustainability,” he added. – Rappler.com
