A DEDICATED Aldi customer has revealed what happened after she swapped the bargain supermarket for M&S for her weekly shop.

Holli, who shares lifestyle content on her TikTok account homebyholli, recently posted a video after trialling food shop over her regular German fave.

She and partner Seb decided to make the switch after hearing that M&S boasted reasonable prices.

“We usually shop at Aldi but I’ve heard really good things about M&S recently and our local M&S opened a new food hall so we thought why not give it a go,” she wrote in her caption.

Holli explained that she typically spends around £60-£70 a week on their food shop for two in Aldi.

The TikToker explained that one of the main reasons she wanted to try M&S was for the fresh produce aisle.

She said: “I actually find that the Aldi fruit and veg goes off by about midweek even though I wash it and keep it refrigerated.

“I’m going to try out the M&S fruit and veg and see if it lasts any longer.”

As well as the fruit and veg, Holli and Seb stocked up on meals for the week including an £8 stir fry meal deal for two, and a £12 deal that nabbed them two pizzas and two sides.

Revealing the total, Holli said: “Total food shop came to £58, we were so surprised and will definitely be back.”

Fellow users were quick to jump in with their own opinions of the supermarket, with many admitting they’d made the switch.

One wrote: “We prefer it so much, we spend £120 on a weekly shop for our family including meats and sometimes it lasts longer.”

“M&S food is not as expensive as people think,” added another, while a third wrote, “Quality of M&S is worth it.”

Holli responded adding, “100% agree! Feel there is such a stigma around it being expensive but it’s really not.

“Our £58 included 2 meals for £20 so could have been even cheaper if we tried x”

WHICH IS THE CHEAPEST SUPERMARKET?

Which?'s monthly analysis looked at eight of the UK's biggest supermarkets and compared the cost of dozens of everyday essentials. Here are the results for August:

  • Aldi – £110.58
  • Lidl (with Lidl Plus) – £111.88
  • Lidl (without Lidl Plus) – £112.17
  • Asda – £121.85
  • Tesco (with Clubcard) – £123.13
  • Tesco (without Clubcard) – £123.62
  • Sainsbury’s (with Nectar) – £123.75
  • Sainsbury’s (without Nectar) – £129.63
  • Morrisons – £129.79
  • Ocado – £133.99
  • Waitrose – £140.89

However, several viewers argued that they wouldn’t be swayed and would be sticking with Aldi.

“We shop at Aldi and the fruit & veg lasts until the next shop,” wrote one Aldi fan.

Another agreed, adding: “Am I the only one that has no issues with Aldi produce , most of it is local but I do live in Scotland so may be different up here ”

Meanwhile a third argued that they hadn’t been wowed by the value for money.

She wrote: “I tried this and the prices were great until I got to the meat section ended up aborting mission and going back to Tesco!”

Holli later shared a follow-up video where she revealed how well her fresh M&S strawberries had lasted.

She explained: “They technically went out of date on 30th August, today is 4th September and they literally look perfect.

“I’m squeezing them and they’re not soft at all.”
