News and Notes: Williams Can't Escape First in Guardians Loss

The Dodgers knocked Gavin Williams out in the first and the Guardians offense couldn't put much together as Cleveland lost 7-2 Saturday night in L.A.

Williams seemed like he might have found his groove in Kansas City but he was yanking pitches across the zone and then leaving pitches middle-middle after falling behind. No word if the pitch-tipping was an issue as well. There will be four more starts for him to get right for October.

On the bright side, the Guardians bullpen was good and especially Erik Sabrowski who threw 2 and a third scoreless, striking out three. Tim Herrin and Eli Morgan were the only top 5 relievers for the Guardians used in the game. Pedro Avila and Scott Barlow each gave up a solo homer.

Steven Kwan is still lost. José is struggling a little bit. But Andres Gimenez had three hits, Kyle Manzardo hit a double and Lane Thomas homered.

The Guardians have a chance to get a series win against a great team this afternoon with Tanner Bibee going up against Jack Flaherty.

The Royals beat the Twins again. With Kansas City having the harder schedule the rest of the way, I'm fine with this.

The Astros also won. That's more of a bummer.

The Guardians' magic number to win the division and secure at least a #2 seed remains at 17.
