New Delhi: Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors made a thumping start to the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League for a third successive win in the competition to catapult to the top of the table after ten games.

Warriors’ captain Imran Tahir won the toss and elected to field, with his bowlers delivering a superb performance that dismantled the St. Lucia Kings’ batting lineup.

Despite the Kings collapsing in dramatic fashion, losing four wickets in the powerplay for just seven runs, a 45-run partnership between Matthew Forde and Tim Seifert delayed the inevitable. The Kings ultimately folded for 100 in the 15th over.

The Warriors, under the aggressive leadership of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, pursued the modest target with urgency. Gurbaz’s dynamic batting approach was evident from the outset and proved highly effective.

Gurbaz launched a serious attack on Matthew Forde in the third over of the innings. He started with a long six over the top and after Forde briefly fought back with one which beat Gurbaz’s outside edge, the batsman went into overdrive. Gurbaz slammed three successive sixes off the next three deliveries to kill the game.

Gurbaz’s attacking game continued as he belted Pierre for three more sixes in the seventh over. Though getting out, caught, after making 47 off 19 balls, the explosive nature of his innings meant the Warriors cantered home to an easy win.
