‘We Are In Touch With Him…’: PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Addresses Jay Shah’s Appointment As ICC Chairman
New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed confidence regarding Jay Shah’s recent appointment as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), stating that there are no concerns over Shah’s promotion to the position.
Elected unopposed at the end of last month, Jay Shah will replace Greg Barclay as ICC chairman, as Barclay opted not to seek a third term. Shah’s elevation is a landmark in cricket administration as he will be the youngest to occupy this prestigious position. He joins the likes of Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar as prominent Indians to the top position in the ICC.
“We are in touch with Jay Shah; there are no concerns about his becoming ICC Chairman. The ACC meeting is on September 8 and 9,” Naqvi told reporters, as quoted from Geo News.
Naqwi also revealed that discussions regarding the new Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president will take place at the upcoming ACC meeting. Naqvi stated that he would not be attending the meeting but confirmed that Salman Nasir would represent Pakistan on his behalf.
“I will not be able to attend the meeting, and Salman Nasir will attend. The meeting will finalise matters related to the new president,” the PCB chairman said.
The ACC meeting is anticipated to serve as a crucial platform for finalizing leadership decisions and shaping the agenda for cricket across the region.
With Jay Shah gearing up to take ICC chairman responsibility from December 1, 2024, all eyes in Pakistan are on hosting the ICC Champions Trophy the next year. The country is engaged in renovating and getting major works done at its premier venues, Karachi National Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, fully prepared for the marquee event.
Naqvi confirmed that the PCB has been in touch with the BCCI and stated, “The Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan. We are in touch with the boards of the teams participating in the tournament.”
